Fusion 2.0

An underrated sportswear brand that’s been around for over 100 years now continues to stick with its tried and tested technology. Now specified for the modern era, the Karhu Fusion 2.0 is the modern and lifestyle version of the original Fusion.

First formed as “Oy Urheilutarpeita” in 1916, Karhu’s first products were discuses and javelins. But the Finnish brand added more track and field events in the selection so they started producing running trainers and running spikes. The running heritage was very evident in 1996 when Karhu unveiled the Karhu Fusion. In the same year, another running shoe called Karhu Synchron also came out, bringing out even more running options.

These running models led Karhu’s footwear to a rising popularity in the UK and the rest of Europe. The Karhu Fusion remained as an icon for those who witnessed its launch.

The Karhu Fusion, just like most Karhu models, boasted the brand’s Fulcrum Technology. Fulcrum cushioning focused on the runner’s biomechanics where the rolling or rocker effect when running must be moving forward; as opposed to the concept of an up and down cushioning systems. Karhu, together with the University of Jyväskylä proved this point when air-filled cushioning systems only work by providing soft cushioning to the runner, but doesn’t help them propel forward.

Karhu’s Fulcrum technology was proven to be effective. It reduced at least 13% of the runner’s bounce compared to the running trainers from other brands.

This “rocking” momentum helped the Finnish brand find its way to prominence.

The Karhu Fusion model returned in a whole new form with the introduction of the Karhu Fusion 2.0. This old-school-inspired modern silhouette now focuses on keeping the foot comfortable and supported as the wearer goes through daily life.

Even when it comes to lifestyle sneakers, Fulcrum technology continued to work its wonders.
