2002R

Is the dad shoe trend over? Well, not according to this shoe! The New Balance 2002r is arguably the most popular New Balance lifestyle shoe in the new era. With various collabs appearing left and right, this vintage-inspired athletics trainer looks to headline the old-school trend.

Just when people thought New Balance has no other awesome shoe aside from the 550 and 99x series, we stumbled upon this pair. New Balance did a great job bringing back this model. Just like the 550, the 2002r is another underrated shoe from the brand archives. Now it gets more attention than when it first came out.

The New Balance 2002r is the modernised version of the 2002 silhouette. Despite the name, the trainer actually came out in 2010, originally as part of the Made in USA lineup.

With the retro release of the shoe in 2020, the New Balance 2002r gained popularity thanks to collabs with Salehe Bembury. Other notable collabs in the last few years include JJJJound, BAPE, Joe Freshgoods, and many more.

The shoe features the usual athletics trainer from the 2010s: mesh upper, suede and leather overlays, and a lightweight low-top construction.

The ABZORB foam midsole provides decent impact protection and comfort. A midfoot shank on the rubber outsole also helps your feet remain stable and supported.

Whenever people talk New Balance, you can almost hear the 2002r in every conversation! That’s how popular it is today and it looks to be that way for more years to come thanks to these collabs.
