Terminator

The 80s became a busy year for Nike when they unveiled a bunch of now-iconic basketball trainers. Whenever we hear the decade of the 80s, most fans recognise the AF1, Dunk, and Air Jordan 1. However, there’s another basketball shoe from the 80s that recently made its return. The Nike Terminator is one of the most underrated sneakers today.

Nike has a rich heritage, especially in the 80s. We can even consider this decade as a breakthrough for the brand. To recap the 80s, Nike launched the AF1, signed Michael Jordan, and brought Air Max to life. The brand’s basketball line became consistent thanks to the likes of the Nike Terminator which first graced the collegiate ranks.

The Nike Terminator first came out in 1985 as a high-top basketball shoe. Appearing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament thanks to the Georgetown Hoyas, the Terminator also came out in select university-inspired styles.

This shoe differentiated itself from the Nike Dunk with its high wrap-around heel panel and a large NIKE branding on the lower back. The special Georgetown Hoyas colourway from 1984 cemented itself as one of the greats with the “HOYAS” label on the back replacing Nike.

The latest release of the Nike Terminator “Georgetown” in 2022 is long overdue as the last release dates back to 2014. This kickstarted the arrival of new colourways to keep up with the latest fashion trends. including the use of faux snakeskin overlays.
