First Look: Nike Air Max Scorpion “Black” DR0888-001

Literally, the BIGGEST Nike Air Max model to date is prepares for a landing. The Nike Air Max Scorpion is ot only one of the most “striking” Air Max Models we’ve come across. But also one of the loudest silhouettes in the whole market. It’s been five years since the Nike Air VaporMax debuted in 2017. To mark the occasion Nike’s bringing an upgraded version of the tech in the form of the fresh Air Max Scorpion sole.

The Nike Air Max Scorpion “Black” DR0888-001 is one of the a number of colourways set to release later on in 2022. A testament to Nike always looking to innovate and reach “greater heights”.

The shoe definitely takes your breath away on first glance. The amount of Air on the shoe looks to be a new personal best for the Swoosh brand, surpassing the Air Max 720, which we didn’t ever see coming! While we have no release date, let’s check out the official photos of the new Nike Air Max Scorpion.

Black Flyknit fabric makes up the entirety of the shoe; from the tongue to the one-piece sock-like collar. Flywire also makes a return and locks down the laces for a better fit. It feels like 2017 all over again!

Linear weaves on the midfoot resemble the Swoosh for brand labelling; while patterned dots on the tongue and heel spell “Air Max” and “Nike”, respectively.

Suede overlays make up the mudguard of this colourway for added protection and durability. Extra layers on the toe ensure stability on the front section.

Without looking deep into the specs or seeing these in hand, the Scorpion has to a=have the biggest Air Max unit ever. What appears to be doubled-stack bubbles form multiple Air Max pillars for maximum cushioning. Pieces of foam comprise the interior of the full-length Air unit to prevent the bubbles from bursting easily.

Just like the VaporMax, the segmented Air bubble itself also serves as the outsole. This time, herringbone traction patterns make up the majority of the outsole, with rubber pods on the forefoot and heel for added grip and durability.

This is definitely one of those trainers where we’ll have to wear and feel them before making a verdict. Since the first photos were leaked opinion has been divided amongst the community. Definietly making a lot of people curious; wondering how the massive Air Max unit will feel on foot. We’ll find out soon when Nike finally provides release information! Stay tuned for its release in 2022 just in time to join in on the fun of the 35th anniversary of Air Max.
