More Crater edition Air Jordans arrive for 2022! This Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Crater” follows up on the Air Jordan 1 Low “Crater University Blue” from last year; except this one boasts lighter hues on the overlay panels. Some nice touches of University Blue on key areas make this another exciting drop for the modern Air Jordan 1s.
Jordan Brand makes another push for Nike’s Move to Zero campaign with this “Crater” edition release. First launched in the previous year; the new Air Jordan 1 Mid “Crater University Blue” dons Michael Jordan’s alma mater colours. Expect more upcoming styles under the Crater label soon.
First released in 1985, the Air Jordan 1 was a massive game-changer for Nike. The timing of release leveraged the basketball shoe in the market as Michael Jordan became the Chicago Bulls’ main man. Featuring a leather upper with a Swoosh and Wings logo on the side, the J1 eventually made its way beyond basketball; and into streetwear and even skateboard.
The rubber cupsole houses a Nike Air unit in the heel; hence the “Air” Jordan 1 namesake (not just because MJ could fly on the court).
The Crater edition of the Air Jordan 1 features recycled content on the body. This Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Crater” uses a canvas base with suede overlays on the vamp, eyestay, and ankle collar. Crater details on the Swoosh and outsole come in the form of multi-coloured speckles; these are made from factory scraps during manufacturing processes and then refined as materials.
University Blue hues appear on the lining, and on the zig-zag stitching across the Swoosh.
A unique makeover that aims to reduce plastic waste. Keep an eye out for an official release in March 2022.
