Air Jordan 8 Retro SE "Rui Hachimura" DO2496-700

Japanese heritage is in full display with this one. The Air Jordan 8 Retro SE “Rui Hachimura” boasts designs and aesthetics originating from Japan.

Jordan Brand not only takes care of their signature athletes, but they also give Player Exclusives to other Jordan-sponsored athletes. This upcoming 2022 Air Jordan 8 Retro, in particular, features Washington Wizards 3rd Year Forward Rui Hachimura. He was drafted ninth overall in the 2019 NBA draft – making him the first Japanese player drafted in the first round.

Rui Hachimura signed with Jordan Brand shortly after the draft. And this resulted in special colourways, most specifically colour schemes involving the Japanese culture. The Air Jordan 8 goes full throttle in showcasing Rui Hachimura’s heritage.

The latest Air Jordan performance models such as the Air Jordans 34, 35, and 36 were usually given for Jordan Brand athletes with no signature shoes yet. That’s why this Air Jordan 8 Retro “Rui Hachimura” gets a special kind of treatment. It’s not every day we get to see an Air Jordan Retro model bestowed on an athlete.

Going into the details, the shoe features a full fuzzy suede makeover in Wheat/Sesame accents. Twine details make up the upper, with graphics on the TPU sidewalls and the cross-straps. A red Kanji-like logo on the tongue came from his mother’s design – it forms an H, pertaining to Hachimura.

Kanji letters also appear inside the tongue for added details.

A special sockliner featuring basketballs, mountains, wind, cherry blossoms, and Jumpman logos gives a nice approach.

Completing this special-edition Air Jordan 8 is a unique packaging box showing Rui Hachimura dunking on two defenders. More Japanese characters like the samurai also appear.

Expect an early 2022 release of the Air Jordan 8 Retro SE “Rui Hachimura”. Based on Jordan Brand’s usual routine, it’s probably releasing before or during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
