Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High "Unicorn"

This Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High “Unicorn” is a tribute to hugely popular Japanese anime franchise “Mobile Suit Gundam”.

The classic anime features giant robots called “Gundam” which the characters control. If you don’t follow it yourself, a war broke out and the main protagonist Amuro Ray now pilots his mecha to survive.  It was one of the most influential mecha anime in the 70s, if not the most! As a tribute to the prominent artwork and work ethic of the Japanese, Nike teamed up with the Gundam franchise.

As we all know, the Nike Dunk (both High and Low versions) suddenly rose in popularity in the past few years. It may have something to do with the arrival of multiple colourway, both new and classic, or it could just be nostalgia. Either way, the Nike Dunks are back to grace the sneaker scene once more like the first did in 1985.

It’s a similar story for the Nike SB Dunk. First arriving in 2002 with a few tweaks to cater to skaters. Aside from the beefed-up tongue, the Nike SB Dunk also incorporated a Zoom Air unit in the heel. A major upgrade to the Nike Dunks that had a minimal source of cushioning. The traction pattern on the Nike SB Dunk also made use of narrower circles on the forefoot.

This colourway of the Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High takes inspiration from the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. The body features a white leather upper with hints of red and navy blue on the lining and outline panels. The forefoot boasts a robotic finish for a unique look. Just near the rear the robot’s unicorn logo can be seen.

Removable Swooshes in transformable robotic styles allow for personalisation. The Swoosh comes in yellow and gold options. A padded ankle collar enhances the Japanese sci-fi anime imprint with multiple lines. The overall design is finished off with a white sole and navy blue outsole.

The arrived in late September 2021. This special collab comes with a bunch of extras. Including special packaging, interchangeable Swooshes, extra laces, Gundam keychains, and a limited-edition figurine of the RX-0 Unicorn wearing the shoe. They landed on the Nike SNKRS app.
