Nike LDWaffle x sacai x UNDERCOVER "Bright Citron"

A complementing colour scheme of Black and Yellow adorn this upcoming Nike LDWaffle. To triple the fun, Nike teamed up with popular Japanese design labels sacai and UNDERCOVER for this Nike LDWaffle “Bright Citron” makeover.

Nike and sacai began working together in 2015 and eventually grew to hyped-up releases. The two brands brought out new designs that just got better with time. One of the most popular Nike x sacai masterpiece is the Nike LDWaffle. A hybrid of two classic Nike runners. The shoe combined the 1978 Nike LDV and the Nike Waffle Racer, two of Nike’s vintage running trainers. The first edition of the LDWaffle came out in 2019 and featured double details. That signature design continued for the next few years.

Two overlapping Swooshes, stacked foam midsoles, double laces, and double tongues. That’s exactly what Chitose Abe and her team at sacai bestowed to the sneaker world. The remix of a shoe took the design inspiration from both the Waffle Racer and Nike LDV. Unsurprisingly, Chitose Abe worked for Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons empire. Leading up to this very moment. It was only in 1999 when sacai arrived, and it surely changed the sneaker game two decades later.

Another Japanese design label named UNDERCOVER was formed in 1993 by Jun Takahashi. Just like Abe and her design experience, Takahashi had his own story to tell as he and A Bathing Ape founder Nigo launched a Japanese store called Nowhere in the 90s. UNDERCOVER rose through the ranks eventually since then.

Nike and UNDERCOVER’s collaboration in 2010 saw the launch of a new functional sneaker and apparel label called Gyakusou. It focused on function and useful materials to go along with the design. Gyakusou built a solid reputation when it comes to luxurious fashion functionalities.

The two prominent Japanese fashion brands joined Nike this 2021 for the upcoming Nike LDWaffle x sacai x UNDERCOVER “Bright Citron”.

This Nike LDWaffle features a Black breathable mesh as the base upper. White leather panels reinforce the grey suede overlays on the toe, heel, and eyestay. The dual details return in the usual fashion. There are two leather Swooshes on the sides, two laces, two tongues, and a double-stacked sole. The laces and the Swoosh appear in White and Yellow to match the ankle collar lining.

Nike, sacai, and UNDERCOVER labels grace the heel panel.
