New Balance Made in US 990v5 "Grey / Castlerock"

The iconic New Balance 990 is so good, they had to make multiple versions of it. The Made in US 990v5 is the latest silhouette in the series; and it returns in a familiar “Grey” colour scheme that headlined the “dad shoe” trend of the previous decade.

Continuing the staple choice for a wide range of demographics, the New Balance 990v5 is the most streamlined 990 model yet. The first New Balance 990 shoe came out in 1982. Yet the traditional premium materials made their way to the 2019 rendition of the series.

These kinds of design resonated with the ever-changing trend in the sneaker community; and New Balance surely took advantage of it.

Exclusively part of New Balance’s Made in US, the New Balance 990v5 features a mesh base upper for a lightweight ride. Smooth suede overlays reinforce the shoe and at the same time, provide long-lasting durability. To keep things a little different from the previous 990 models, the 990v5 features a TPU strip around the collar for a more secure and comfortable fit.

Unique details in the tongue and heel come in the form of the USA flag to pertain to the MADE IN US tag. While the heel highlights two Vs to refer to the “version 5”.

Dual-density ENCAP foam midsole gives a well-cushioned ride, suitable for both short jogs and trips to the mall.

Segmented multi-directional blade traction patterns make up the forefoot section of the outsole. Thick lugs on the outer edges and the heel finish off the sole.

Arguably the most recognizable colourway, the New Balance MADE IN US 990v5 “Grey / Castlerock” arrives once more. This is the kind of sneaker that goes beyond the “dad shoe” trend and becomes a staple in lifestyle footwear.
