2021 saw the return of some of the most popular OG colourways of the Nike Air Huarache as part of the model’s 30th anniversary. For 2022, Nike brings new flavours to the growing roster of the staple lifestyle shoe. Despite many years in the market, the Huarache knows exactly how to keep us coming back for more.
Introduced in 1991, the Nike Air Huarache came to solve two harrowing issues in trainers during that era; first is that they’re heavy, and then lack consistent fit. Tinker Hatfield then took inspiration from neoprene water ski boots and Mexican sandals from early civilizations. The result? A lightweight runner that literally hugs the foot thanks to a neoprene collar.
Aside from the neoprene rear, the mesh makes up the forefoot. Leather or suede overlays cover the toe and the eyestays depending on the colourway. The heel also boasts a TPU heel counter for added support and stability.
For more subtle details, Nike opted to remove the Swoosh and placed Nike labels on the heel counter and outsole. A Nike Huarache logo stands out on the tongue.
The soft foam midsole hides a Nike Air unit inside for a well-cushioned ride.
A modified waffle outsole completes the design.
This Nike Air Huarache LE “Off-Noir Summit White” arrives in an all-black upper base with a Sail White midsole. A great minimalist colour scheme for all-day wear.
Expect an official launch in early March 2022 on the Nike website.
