Nike retools the Air Max 90 again—this time with the Drift. The “Triple Black” colourway strips it down while still adding layers, literally. This isn’t just a cosmetic switch-up. It’s a reinforced version of the original, designed to handle more than just pavements.
The build steps away from the smoother panels of the OG. In their place, Nike adds rugged textures and heavier-duty overlays. You’ll find ripstop sections alongside real and synthetic leather. TPU frames the upper for extra structure, while rubber elements bulk out the heel and sidewall. Everything comes dressed in deep black, letting the contrast come through in texture rather than colour.
It still carries the essentials that made the Air Max 90 a staple. That includes visible Max Air cushioning in the heel and a Waffle outsole underfoot. Grip stays solid across multiple surfaces. The ride feels firm, with enough give for everyday wear. It’s chunky, but not overdone.
The Drift borrows cues from this year’s Air Max Plus Drift, sharing the same aggressive stance and layered engineering. It pushes the 90 into tougher territory without sacrificing comfort. Think streetwear with trail-readiness baked in.
