Nike Air Max 97 "Black / Sport Red"

No, this isn’t a Darth Vader-inspired colourway. But the Air Max 97 “Black / Sport Red” is stylish enough to be considered as such.

Arguably one of the most iconic and revolutionary Air Max sneakers because of its first of its never-before-seen features. The Nike Air Max 97 continues to release until this day with new and classic colourways. This time it’s part of the “Black Sport/Red” interpretation together with other Air Max models.

Taking inspiration from a water ripple effect, the wavy pattern of the upper is made with premium leather that provides comfort and durability to this retro trainer. The upper on this colourway is dominated by black, with reflective hints of white on the sides. The rip-stop mesh base on the body remains consistent, just like all the other silhouettes sporting the same colour combination.

Another tiny Sport Red Swoosh on the forefoot gives a lively detail and accompanies the subtle midfoot Swoosh. More Sport Red accents adorn the heel and the tongue.

The hidden lacing system, which is the first of its kind feature during its release, appears in stealthy black. Laces come in white for that contrasting aesthetic. The white panel on the upper reflects when shined upon.

Below, a visible full-length Nike Air Max unit gives a rather modern vibe to the blacked-out sneaker. It was in the Air Max 97 where Nike first implemented full-length Nike Air Max. Underneath is the waffle-traction outsole in Black and White which provides grip on wet and dry surfaces.
