Another Air Max icon joins the new sneaker pack in honour of the late and great Frank Rudy. The man responsible for putting air bubbles to life gets his own tribute theme with these new Air Max “Frank Rudy” colourways. This Nike Air Max 97 “Frank Rudy” is the latest silhouette to join the collection. Vintage details on the shoe point to the blueprint design of Mr. Rudy and how Nike Air changed the game.
First introduced in 1977, Nike Air technology celebrates its 40th year this 2022. No better way to celebrate its milestone than a tribute release for the man who made all these things possible. Mr. Marion Franklin Rudy is an aerospace engineer who created Nike Air by putting gas in a polyurethane bag. This invention went on to become one of Nike’s finest techs, even after all these years!
The Nike Air Max 97 first came out in 1997 and featured the first full-length Air Max unit on a shoe. Inspired by water ripples and Japanese bullet trains, the AM97 remains highly popular due to its wide array of awesome colourways. 3M Reflective materials also adorn the wavy panels on the upper, giving a distinct effect under the right lighting conditions.
This Nike Air Max 97 “Frank Rudy” features old-school aesthetics as a nod to the late 70s. The White mesh fabric makes up the base of the shoe, while Grey suede mudguards reinforce the sides. Scribble Swooshes complement the blueprint sockliners where Frank Rudy’s signature appears.
The Est. 1997 label on the air bubble represents the first release of the shoe.
A vintage yellowish semi-translucent outsole finishes off the nostalgic design.
