Nike Air More Uptempo '96 "Pink Purple Gradient" DR9612-100

This is one of the most unique and special Air More Uptempo colourways in recent years. Various details on the shoe indicate some sort of dedication to Wilson Smith III, the main designer of the shoe. The Nike Air More Uptempo ’96 “Pink Purple Gradient” showcases a material update in the form of gridded mesh layers. A gradient fade effect on the grid mesh upper resembles the sunset just before nighttime. Seeing the designer’s signature and other personal details on the shoe makes it more awesome!

Known to be a great and supportive basketball shoe for forwards and centres, this new Uptempo colourway boasts pastel hues. This colourway is definitely a tribute to Wilson Smith III as seen on the tongue and sockliner. Its grid mesh construction gives it a lighter build compared to the full leather makeover of the original.

First released in 1996, the Nike Air More Uptempo became one of the most popular sneakers of its time. The large “AIR” branding placed on the upper easily catches the attention of people. And with Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen rocking them, NBA fans witnessed how this and the Air Jordan 11 worn by MJ made headlines in the sneaker world.

The shoe seems to be catching up with modern times as it introduces this new colourway.

This Nike Air More Uptempo ’96 “Pink Purple Gradient” features a grid mesh base with Pink and Purple gradient hues. Leather panels on the toe, AIR branding, and heel reinforce the upper. The tongue features a WSIII 12 05 1983, the letters refer to the Air More Uptempo’s designer, Wilson Smith III. But we’re still not sure about the date and what it represents.

Wilson Smith’s signature also appears on the right sockliner, while the left boasts a bible verse taken from Philippians 2:3-4 saying “in humility count others more significant than yourselves”.
