An iconic basketball trainer from the 80s returns in OG form for its 2022 relaunch! Aside from the timeless PUMA Clyde, there’s another popular PUMA basketball shoe. Meet the PUMA Slipstream! Years after gracing streetwear and fashion scenes, the Slipstream returns in its simple yet eye-catching makeover. The PUMA Slipstream “White Black” joins the flurry of debut colourways to kickstart the campaign.
There’s just something about 80s basketball sneakers and their flair when going beyond basketball. Most if not all of the popular basketball styles from the 80s eventually made their way to the streetwear scene; often getting praises for their style and versatile fashion rather than their impact on basketball. Either way, trainers like the PUMA Slipstream just show how brands were way ahead of time since the 80s.
The PUMA Slipstream originally came out in 1987 as the basketball successor to the SKY LX. Arriving in both High and Low versions, the Slipstream quickly became a popular choice for hoopers; specifically in college where the shoe appeared donning college teams’ school colours.
PUMA brought the shoe back in 2002 and dominated the streetwear culture in Japan. Because of its immense popularity in fashion, PUMA launched a special Made in Japan version of the PUMA Slipstream.
Returning in OG form this 2022, the PUMA Slipstream “White Black” joins the Slipstream campaign together with other colourways. White makes up the leather upper, with hints of Black on the lining, outsole, and suede heel panel.
This is just the start of the Slipstream’s comeback in mainstream fashion as PUMA expects to bring the other versions soon. Keep an eye out for its release this June on PUMA UK.
