Iconic then, iconic now. The Vans Old Skool OG continues to roll out in retailers due to its immense popularity. This classic “Black / White” makeover takes it all the way back when the model came out as “Style 36”. Another timeless sneaker that we’ll always put on the sneaker rotation.
Brand logos always give the brand its identity; there’s the Nike’s Swoosh; adidas’ three stripes and trefoil; and as for Vans, the jazz stripe signaled a new era for the brand when it appeared on the Old Skool.
The then Van Doren Rubber Company started out in a humble office in Anaheim, California; where the founders manufacture the rubber shoes on the same day that the customers ordered.
Vans Authentic and Vans Era were the brand’s first two silhouettes. The low-cut rubber shoe with thick rubber soles and a grippy waffle traction pattern became a staple among skateboarders.
But something was missing, there’s no logo aside from the Vans’ tag on the quarter. That’s where the Old Skool completely changed the brand forever. In 1977, the “random doodle” by co-founder Paul Van Doren made its way to the shoe. This jazz became the brand’s signature detail since then.
Similar to previous models, the Vans Old Skool features a canvas upper with stitched reinforcements. The leather jazz stripe adds lateral stability to the shoe – bringing in an actual function and not only aesthetic.
This classic Vans Old Skool OG “Black / White” boasts a black canvas base with white detailing. White laces, jazz stripe, stitching, and rubber midsole complete the design.
It’s available on the Vans website and other retailers worldwide.
