Nike quietly sneaks in more Cortez colourways after we celebrated the monumental silhouette’s 50th anniversary in 2022. More styles apart from the usual OG pairs showcase the potential of this 70s track shoe. This Women’s Nike Cortez “Light Orewood Brown” lands in neutral colours headlined by fuzzy suede uppers and gradient outsoles.

Long before Dunks and AF1s were primary lifestyle shoes, there was the Nike Cortez. We can still see a lot of people rock this shoe, but definitely not like before. Maybe this style will rekindle all the forgotten history of the iconic Cortez. Or maybe all Nike needs to do is to bring back the OG colourways! No, not including the sacai and Union LA collabs from the previous year.

The Nike Cortez is one of the most revolutionary sneakers of the 70s. This was actually Nike’s first track shoe, designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman himself. However, it was not that simple back then. As you see, Both Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman worked with Japanese sportswear brand Onitsuka Tiger. They served as exclusive United States distributors of Onitsuka Tiger shoes.

With Bill Bowerman’s experience as a champion track & field head coach, he designed a new track shoe. Eventually, the Nike Cortez officially debuted with the Swoosh brand while Onitsuka Tiger got their own rights to sell the Corsair.

This Women’s Nike Cortez “Light Orewood Brown” features a fuzzy suede Light Orewood base with leather overlays on the toe and heel. Brown Swoosh and heel panels complement the upper.

Yellowish tongues stay true to the vintage look while the right pair features a ’72 branding on the heel. This is a reference to the Cortez’ year of release.

Gradient semi-translucent outsoles feature Yellow and Orange for an awesome finish.

Cop this pair this March 2023 on the Nike UK website.
