The Junya Watanabe x New Balance 1906 Loafer Contrasts the Past With the Future

Earlier this month, Junya Watanabe took to the runways of Paris Fashion Week to showcase his Autumn/Winter 2024 collection. It was exactly what we all expected from the legendary Japanese designer. The shapes were big, boxy, and androgynous, and the colours were black and white and everything in between. It was classic Watanabe, really. But what stood out the most was the Junya Watanabe x New Balance 1906 Loafer that’s unlike anything we’ve seen ever before.

Revealed in two monochromatic colour options including “Triple Black” and “Triple White,” the top half of the New Balance shoe-sneaker hybrid looks like a typical penny loafer with a smooth leather construction that’s as premium as it gets. A branded tag features on the tongue tag, and you’ll find additional logos printed on the insole.

But, as soon as you shift your focus to the bottom half, you’ll immediately realise that’s there’s so much more to it than meets the eye. The lateral and medial sidewalls are covered in the same design as the 1906R, and you’ll also find a ABZORB foam midsole that’s as comfortable as it gets. It’s then lined with a N-ERGY rubber outsole – perfect for both runways and running. All of this then comes packed in a special shoebox that has been made exclusively for this coveted collaboration. What’s there not to love?

For those seeking a footwear option that seamlessly blends the classic with the contemporary, the Junya Watanabe x New Balance 1906 Loafer is an impressive choice that’s sure to make a statement. Expected to debut sometime in Autumn 2024, make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to secure your size!
