Nike has officially unveiled the Nike Apex, the brand’s latest marathon racing shoe positioned at the top of its race-day range. Its defining feature is a forefoot system containing four Air Zoom units arranged in two stacked pairs, supported by new ZoomX LT foam and a redesigned carbon-fibre Flyplate.

The launch colourway places a dark Flyknit X upper over the sculpted midsole, making the red and bright green Air Zoom units stand out. A fitted knit collar and sockliner-free construction reduce layers around the foot, while the lightweight upper provides a close, breathable fit.

Underfoot, the Apex uses a raised, inverse-wave carbon-fibre Flyplate. Its shape directs force into the stacked Air units while contributing to forward motion and stability. ZoomX LT surrounds the system, with Nike describing the race-specific foam as softer, lighter and more responsive than standard ZoomX.

The geometry is equally unusual. Both the heel and forefoot measure 40mm, creating a zero-drop platform at the maximum stack height permitted under current road-racing rules. A wider base and rocker profile aim to keep the shoe stable through the marathon, while strategically placed GOATEK and Fast Shot outsole rubber supplies traction and durability without unnecessary coverage.

Nike says the Apex returns up to 40% more energy than the Alphafly 3 and weighs over 10% less, based on a men’s US size 10. The shoe sits alongside the Alphafly 4 and Swooshfly in Nike’s expanded race-day lineup, serving runners focused on maximum marathon efficiency.
It will release globally in January 2027 through Nike.com and select retailers. An exact launch date has not been announced, but the retail price is reportedly around £265, and unisex sizing is expected.
