The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Sashiko” is All About the Little Details

The Zoom Vomero 5 is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most popular Nike sneakers of the year. First released all the way back in 2011, the silhouette was brought back briefly in 2013 for a very special collaboration with A-COLD-WALL*. In 2023, after a decade on ice, it made a full-fledged comeback with must-own colourways like the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Sashiko.”

One of the first things that you’ll notice about this Vomero is that it ditches the conventional mesh for a tan canvas base instead.

The rubberised cage has also been replaced with a luxurious leather one, which is decorated with contrast stitching for a sartorially-inspired aesthetic. A dash of light grey suede adorns the front of the lacing system for extra premium points, and the mudguards at the toe and heel introduce a rustic orange finish, injecting a pop of vibrancy to the otherwise neutral palette.

However, the most striking design feature has to to be the collar. Painted in a blue-grey hue, it’s decorated with a unique pattern that nods to the traditional embroidery technique known as sashiko.

This ancient art has been a mainstay in Japanese culture for centuries, and it works wonders on this contemporary running shoe.

With its innovative design, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Sashiko” successfully combines the allure of traditional craftsmanship with the demands of modern sneaker culture. Expected to drop sometime in March 2024, so make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to secure your size!
