From the Astro Boy-inspired Big Red Boot to the AC2 Mule that literally looks like something prescribed by the NHS, MSCHF has never been afraid to go against the status quo. And now, it looks like the Brooklyn-based brand has another wild sneaker up its sleeve as we take our very first look at the MSCHF x Reebok Pump Omni Zone II. Marking the duo’s first collaboration ever, from what we’ve seen so far, it certainly won’t be their last.
From a distance, MSCHF’s take on the old school basketball shoe looks like your usual retro affair. Boasting a leather and suede construction with glossy panelling across the lateral and medial sidewalls, perforations are dotted across the toebox for better ventilation. However, as soon as you take an even closer look, you’ll begin to find some pretty big differences. Firstly, the entire upper is covered in Reebok’s “Pump” system for a trippy aesthetic that is sure to turn heads. Some of these are also embellished with “The MSCHF” branding to really drive the partnership home.
The controversial collective will also be working on two unique colourways. One pair is painted in a traditional white and blue, while the other opts for pale yellow and light grey. It’s a crazy drop, and one that represents a new dawn for MSCHF. While the New York City label has always been seen as one of the weirder companies that the bigger names don’t usually associate themselves with, this project, as well as the Crocs collab from last month, are clear signs that the industry is finally beginning to take them seriously – and we love to see it.
Not much else is known about the MSCHF x Reebok Pump Omni Zone II at this moment in time. But according to Captain Crep’s sources, they’ll be available sometime this month via MSCHF, Reebok, and select stockists globally.
