Apple’s return to Tokyo’s Ginza district wasn’t just about tech, it was about sneakers too. CEO Tim Cook appeared at the reopening of Apple Ginza in a striking custom Nike Vomero Plus reworked by Japanese collective Sashiko Gals, a group known famously for fusing traditional embroidery with modern footwear.

The model chosen was the Nike Vomero Plus, one of Nike’s most hyped and most cushioned trainers right. Built on a full ZoomX midsole with a 45 mm heel and 35 mm forefoot stack, the silhouette is recognised for its plush ride, lightweight feel, and everyday versatility. Already a favourite for daily miles, recovery sessions, and long runs.

The Sashiko Gals took that performance base and transformed it with hand-crafted artistry. Indigo patchwork panels, rough-edged stitching, and layered embroidery cover the upper, giving the shoe a look rooted in Japanese textile tradition. Pops of orange and red tie into the bold ZoomX cushioning below, while white hand stitches bring that Sashiko theme.

While there’s no indication this version will see a retail release, its appearance on Tim Cook at such a high-profile event has sparked plenty of conversation.
