Following the massive success of his 990v6 and 1906R projects, Baklava has been handed the keys to the 1890. Drawing from the New Balance vault, the 1890 reinstates the original segmented midsole of the 2002. This specific tooling was once touted as the most premium and expensive running platform in the brand’s history. The 1890 isn’t just a retro return; it is a full evolution of New Balance’s most ambitious performance tech with Action Bronson’s unique twist.

The “Hornet Tusk” upper feels significantly more substantial than the average lifestyle shoe you see right now. Utilizing a range of materials from premium suedes to heavy-duty synthetics, it maintains the high-end, rugged feel now synonymous with the Baklava imprint.

The foundation consists of an open-cell “hornet’s nest” mesh in beige and off-white. The color blocking features a sophisticated mix of grey leather overlays, while a sharp Solar Yellow heel counter provides that signature Bronson pop. This is contrasted by a deep Royal Blue “N” logo at the midfoot. The look is grounded by seafoam green accents on the tongue and rugged, hiking-style orange rope laces tie the “utility” theme together nicely 👌🏻.

The midsole features full-length ABZORB pods for a ride that prioritizes stability. Unlike modern “super-foams” that can feel too “squishy” for daily wear, the 1890 offers a firm, responsive energy return. Wearing these a lot over the last week, that pod-like construction feels very comfortable on foot.

While technically capable of handling a light run, this silhouette is a lifestyle powerhouse and not designed for the track.
If you missed out on the “Cyborg Tears” blue pair or if you felt the 1906R played it too safe in the current market, this may just be the Action Bronson “cop” of the season. Dropping February 6th in the US and expected a little later over here in the UK, the Action Bronson x New Balance 1890 “Hornet Tusk” continues to prove Bronson is one of the most exciting collaborators in the game.
