Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Nike is tapping directly into late-90s nostalgia with the Cryoshot Mercurial Vapor R9. Draped in the definitive Varsity Royal and Varsity Maize colourway, this release replicates the exact aesthetic Ronaldo Nazário debuted at the 1998 World Cup. This time, it lands with an iced-out midsole to completely dominate modern streetwear, pivoting away from standard retros into high-performance collectors’ pieces.
Like the X2 Cryoshot World Cup Pack, this revamped Mercurial Vapor R9 is sure to turn heads throughout the season.

While the visual cues, including the signature “R9” branding and distinct wave patterns, pay homage to the past, the construction belongs entirely to the current era. Nike swapped out the heavy K-leather and synthetic skins of the nineties for an ultra-lightweight, moulded upper. It wraps the foot tightly without the bulk, dropping significant weight while retaining that classic, aggressive silhouette.

The standout feature of the Nike Cryoshot is the clear TPU wrap on the outsole, tuned for everyday wear rather than the blunt, pitch-ready blades of the original. This release bridges the gap between archive obsession and football culture, bypassing the usual marketing fluff to deliver a genuine piece of sports history. We can expect these to drop during the World Cup tournament with an RRP of £145.
