The New Balance 9060 Goes Autumn Mode inh “Thunder Brown/Black Coffee”

The original 9060 isn’t going anywhere just yet.

New Balance has spent the summer messing with the 9060. The new 9060R takes the familiar silhouette and pulls it in a more technical direction, but while all the attention has naturally gone to the new version, the original is quietly getting on with things.

And, looking at the new “Thunder Brown/Black Coffee” colourway, its clear, the OG setup isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

This is exactly the sort of palette that suits the 9060. It’s already a big, complicated trainer with an enormous midsole. Going relatively simple with the colours lets all of that shape do the work .

Light brown mesh sits underneath tonal suede, before the considerably darker “Black Coffee” shade takes over around the mudguard, tongue and lining. Cream around the oversized N logo stops everything becoming one big brown mass, with similar shades worked into the midsole.

There’s a slightly outdoor feel to the whole thing, without New Balance having to stick hiking laces on it and give it a GORE-TEX coating.

More importantly, brown is having a very good run right now. Chocolate, coffee and earthy colourways have become some of the easiest trainers to work into a rotation. Heading into autumn, this makes more sense than a bright summer 9060 that’s gunna get hit with the UK rain.
