The New Balance ABZORB 2000 has entered its Luxe era this autumn, and we’re here for it. Drenched in rich chocolate brown tones, this latest version takes one of our favourite New Balance silhouettes and gives it a more refined look.
We’ve been fans of the ABZORB 2000 since it first arrived in 2025. It’s chunky, futuristic and unlike much of what New Balance has released in recent years. But while earlier colourways have leaned heavily into that technical, almost sci-fi aesthetic, the Luxe feels a little more premium.
And that’s exactly why we like it.
The biggest change is the upper. The original ABZORB 2000 features a lightweight mesh and synthetic construction, with printed overlays creating much of its distinctive patterning. The Luxe takes a different approach, introducing a more considered mix of textures, contrasting panels and visible stitching.

It’s a relatively subtle update, but one that makes a noticeable difference. The upper feels less like a traditional technical runner and more like something built for everyday styling.
Underfoot, New Balance has kept things familiar. The exaggerated, sculpted midsole remains unchanged in its basic design, combining full-length ABZORB cushioning with visible ABZORB SBS pods. It’s arguably the shoe’s biggest selling point, so we’re glad New Balance hasn’t messed with it.
The result is still unmistakably an ABZORB 2000, just with a different personality.
For us, the real appeal is the colourway. Officially dressed in Thunder Brown and Pumpernickel, the combination of deep chocolate tones and contrasting textures makes this one of the most wearable versions we’ve seen.

We paired them with burgundy trousers, and the colours work particularly well together. The oversized proportions of the shoe also sit nicely beneath a wider trouser leg, making it an easy option for autumn fits.
And the Luxe is a good example of how effective that can be.
If chunky New Balance trainers are a priority this Autumn then the ABZORB 2000 would be very high on our list.
The New Balance ABZORB 2000 Luxe ‘Thunder Brown/Pumpernickel’ is available now, with a UK retail price of £160.
