Nike Ovolo 2.0 Brings Back the Bizarre Sneaker Heel

Nike’s archive stretches well beyond familiar runners and basketball shoes. The Nike Ovolo 2.0 revisits one of its stranger ideas: a sneaker upper sitting above a sculpted, raised heel. First seen around 2004–05, the Ovolo returns with revised construction that makes the separation beneath the heel even more pronounced. Its defining feature is the space under the shoe, giving an otherwise recognisable sportswear shape an unusual profile.

The original borrowed heavily from the Nike Shox R4, which debuted in 2000. That connection appears in the squared tongue and narrow perforated section towards the toe. It also places the Ovolo within a longer history of Nike experimenting with the R4’s shape, including Martine Rose’s Shox R4 Mule. The new version revisits an idea Nike explored more than two decades ago.

The update changes how the details meet. Separate side Swooshes give way to branding embossed into the leather upper, while the revised heel structure creates a more open profile. Removing the attached logos lets the curved panels and sculpted base carry more of the design.

Nike Ovolo 2.0 “Black” takes the quieter approach. In the preview images, the dark upper and glossy heel sit close together tonally, making reflections and the opening beneath the rear foot the main points of contrast. It gives the unusual silhouette a relatively restrained finish.

The Nike Ovolo 2.0 “Metallic Silver” makes the construction easier to read. Bright silver panels contrast with black sections around the laces and collar, emphasising the upper’s curved lines. Against the dark heel, the metallic finish gives the shoe a more mechanical appearance and brings its early-2000s influences forward.

Both colourways are expected to release in Holiday 2026 in women’s sizing. An exact drop date and UK retail price remain unannounced; UK availability and confirmed stockists are also unverified as of posting.
