Air Max Day 2023 was extra special as Nike finally unveiled the Air Max 1 ’86 Big Bubble. This is the first time Nike released the shoe following a brief initial launch in 1986. Nike compromised and turned the big Air unit down, becoming the modern Air Max 1 we all recognise.
The Nike Air Max is one of the most revolutionary sneakers in history. Officially introduced in 1987, this shoe was the first to feature an exposed Nike Air unit, found in the heel. Tinker Hatfield designed the AM1 and took inspiration from the Centre Pompidou in France. This streamlined running shoe comes in a lightweight mesh build with suede and leather overlays. Through the years, the AM1 saw multiple retro releases and collab. It’s a testament to its legendary run that solidified the Nike Air Max line.
Air Max Day 2023 marked the debut of the Air Max 1 ’86, signifying a new era for the classic model.
This Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Lost Sketch” features a grey mesh base with suede Safari prints on the mudguard. Light blue textile overlays cover the midfoot section and heel panel. A handwritten “AIR” lettering above the big bubble represents the prototype and blueprints of the AM1 during its development.
You can cop this new colourway in June 2023.
