Jordan Brand brings more MJ alma mater vibes early next year once again. This Air Jordan 6 Retro “UNC / University Blue” utilises the University of North Carolina Tar Heel’s colours. Highly reminiscent of the Air Jordan Retros featuring “University Blue” silhouettes just a few months back.
While the Air Jordan 1 High OG Retro “University Blue” is the only OG “UNC” colourway, it’s undeniably iconic nonetheless. The incorporation of White and University Blue on an Air Jordan felt like a match made in heaven. And getting your hands on a pair makes the feeling even more fulfilling. While the pairs that come out on retailers may be a far cry from the Player Exclusive editions for UNC athletes, it’s still an appealing colour scheme.
The Air Jordan 6 is one of Michael Jordan’s memorable basketball shoes. It was the shoe worn by MJ when he and the Chicago Bulls won their first-ever NBA championship in 1991. This led to a three-peat, with Michael Jordan winning Finals MVP every time. Its significance on MJ’s stellar NBA career makes this shoe a must-cop.
When it comes to the design, the J6 took design cues from German sports cars. We all know MJ’s love for sports cars, so Tinker Hatfield brought semblances of sleek and modern cars to the shoe.
The upper features multiple perforations from the midfoot to the ankle collar. A TPU tongue and TPU heel tab add a touch of the future to this shoe. Nike Air units make a return in the usual heel and forefoot setup.
The Air Jordan 6 Retro “UNC / University Blue” features a nubuck base in UNC Blue, while White leather overlays reinforce the rest of the upper. Hints of Midnight Navy make up the midsole, while a jock tag on the heel pays homage to school-inspired colourways.
A translucent tongue with zig-zag patterns in the interior highlights the theme.
It’s finished off with a White outsole with icy translucent rubber sections.
