2022 marks the 75th anniversary of baseball legend Jackie Robinson’s “barrier-breaking” appearance in Major League Baseball. He became the first African American player to ever play in the league when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. With this historic milestone, Nike made sure to commemorate and celebrate this feat with a special Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson”.
Starting off with the upper, this special Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson” comes in Blue and Sail White as a nod to the Brooklyn Dodgers uniform colours. Sail White makes up the vamp, quarter, heel, and the nylon tongue; while Blue dons the rest of the overlays as well as the Swooshes in felt fabric.
Additional details like the mini Swoosh on the forefoot add a unique touch. Jackie Robinson’s famous statement that reads “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” appears on the Blue leather overlays. His “42” jersey number also comes in silver right on the rear panel. This detail is similar to the recently released Air Jordan 1 High “Rebellionaire” which had a story of its own.
The same statement appears on the sockliner too.
The tongue boasts a logo featuring the number 75 and a “Breaking Barriers” slogan.
White midsole and Black rubber outsole complete the design.
While there are no official release details, expect these to arrive come April 2022. Just in time to celebrate 42’s game-changing achievement not just in baseball but in the entirety of sports.
