From the Air Jordan 1 High to the Cortez OG, Union LA has worked on some of the most iconic Nike and Jordan Brand silhouettes over the past couple of years. However, for 2024, the Chris Gibbs-helmed boutique is trying something a little different with the upcoming Union LA x Nike Field General. This is a model that you’ve probably never heard of before. Why? Because it was introduced back in the early ’80s, and it’s making a comeback almost four decades later.
The Field General first released in 1982, and was originally designed for American footballers. While classic renditions are made of leather, leather, and even more leather, the Los Angeles imprint switches things up with a ballistic mesh base and suede overlays. The “Shimmer” colourway is painted in tones of beige and pink, while the “Black” is reminiscent of the legendary Union LA x Air Jordan 4 from 2020.
A Swoosh glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls alongside the iconic “UN/LA” tag, and all of this sits on top of a rubber midsole that’s as comfortable as it gets. Like the original silhouette from ’82, this is lined with a toothy outsole for added grip on the gridiron. However, unlike the original silhouette from ’82, it’s now a little more lifestyle-focused. Nike has even added a ribbon-like pull tab around the heel so you can slip these on and off with ease.
Expected to release sometime in Spring 2024, the Union LA x Nike Field General has got to be one of this year’s most unexpected drops. Let us know which colourway you’re feeling the most, and make sure you keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to cop!
