Last year, Nike made the decision to bring back the Zoom Vomero 5. And while they probably didn’t know it at the time, this old school silhouette would eventually become one of the most hyped models in its product line. Now, the American sportswear company is ready to give it its most luxurious makeover to date with the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Design by Japan,” and from what we’ve seen so far, it ticks all the right boxes.
If you’ve never heard of the “Design by Japan” collection, that’s probably because it was only introduced last year with an Air Max 1 that sold out in mere seconds. This Vomero version follows the same kind of ethos, seamlessly blending retro details with a modern design. The entire base, for example, lets go of the classic mesh construction in favour of smooth “Pale Ivory” leather. It’s also overlaid by buttery soft “Light Bone” suede panels.
To the lateral and medial sidewalls, you’ll find an oversized Swoosh that’s decked out in a tumbled texture, and an extra layer of ruggedness is injected by the two pull tabs that are stitched on the tongue and heel. All of this then sits on top of a chunky Cushlon foam midsole, and it’s infused with Zoom Air tech for additional comfort and cushioning with every step.
To round it all off, a portrait of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman can be found on the insoles as a nod to the sneaker’s running roots. All of this is then packed in a special shoebox that has been made specifically for this limited edition colourway.
A release date for the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Design by Japan” has yet to be announced, so make sure to keep it locked at Captain Creps for all of the latest updates!
