Union Los Angeles picks another iconic Nike footwear for their latest instalment in the collab. The Nike Cortez gets the modern-day design treatment with updated materials and extra motifs. This Union x Nike Cortez SP “Tan / Pink” is just one of many colourways in the collab. We’re already excited for the rest of the styles!
After a successful release of the Air Jordan 2s and Nike Dunk Lows, Union LA is back for another collab. This time, the 1972 classic Nike Cortez headlines the second half of the year. The unique mix and match of colours bring signature Union details to the shoe. Tan and Pink headline this pair, leaning toward the warm hues and contrasting the other Blue-based colourway.
The Nike Cortez originally came out in 1972 as one of the first official designs by Bill Bowerman; it’s also one of the first official trainers as Blue Ribbon Sports formally renamed to Nike in the same year.
Leather makes up the upper of the shoe, with a nylon tongue and dual-density sponge foam midsole.
An aggressive herringbone traction pattern provides one of the best tractions in the history of running trainers.
Union puts a modern twist on the classic Nike Cortez in this new collab. The Union x Nike Cortez “Tan / Pink” goes for a canvas and suede combo with Nike and Union logos altogether.
Canvas makes up the base of the shoe, with striped shades ranging from Light Blue, Tan, and Pink. Suede overlays reinforce the rest of the panels. Pink suede Swooshes and heel tabs add more vibrance.
Union LA logos adorn the forefoot, tongue, heel, and sockliner.
The sponge foam midsole incorporates various speckles with a bunch of holes and craters; a nod to Nike’s sustainable Crater Foam.
Scheduled for a June 2022 launch, this is the first time we’ve seen the Cortez in a collab for a long time.
