Pushing Classics Forward: The Streets & Reebok Reinvent an Icon

The Reebok Classic Leather is probably one of the sportswear company’s most iconic silhouettes to date. And now, it’s getting a minimalist makeover courtesy of Mike Skinner with the The Streets x Reebok Classic Leather. Made in collaboration with UK-based retailer END. Clothing, this exclusive project takes the legendary model, and packs it with some big upgrades.

Revealed in two monochromatic colourways including “Black” and “Chalk,” The Streets’ take on the shoe features a reworked construction that looks and feels extremely premium. The former is crafted from a nylon and nubuck construction that nods to the group’s frontman, Mike Skinner, and how he sees himself today, while the latter represents who he was in the past and his meteoric rise to musical superstardom.

The Reebok Classic Leather holds a unique place in British culture, often worn as a statement against the stringent “NO HATS, NO TRAINERS” policies of pubs and clubs. This era is also remembered for Skinner’s homegrown garage beats and raw, street-level lyrics, establishing The Streets as a pivotal force in shaping the direction of hip-hop, garage, and grime music within the UK.

The relationship between The Streets and Reebok has been strong, ever since Skinner immortalized Reebok Classics in the line “Let’s put on our Classics and have a little dance, shall we?” from the song ‘Let’s Push Things Forward’ on their acclaimed debut album, ‘Original Pirate Material’. This album echoes the early 2000s UK club scene, a period marked by genre-blending UK garage music and the iconic image of fresh white Reebok Classics paired aside designer labels.

Both Reebok trainers are decked out with a gold logo across the lateral windows, and this is complemented by metallic aglets and eyelets. All of this then rests on top of a rubber midsole, which is lined with a special “The Streets”-branded gum rubber outsole. It’s then packed in limited edition shoeboxes, which have been made specifically for this awesome collaboration.

Set to hit shelves on April 19th, the The Streets x Reebok Classic Leather collection is a must-have for both fans of Mike Skinner sneakerheads alike. Let us know which colourway you’re feeling the most, and be sure to keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to secure your size.
