When it comes to the adidas Rivalry, its design is unrivalled. This classic basketball shoe from the brand’s 1980s archives first came out as a signature shoe. But despite that plan not coming to fruition, this trainer went on to become one of the classics. It’s nice to see adidas show some love for this shoe!

When Nike introduced the Air Jordan 1 in 1985, adidas quickly put up a shoe meant to match the rival brand. In 1986, adidas launched the Ewing. If you ever noticed the history of adidas basketball, you’d see that the brand was only interested in signing bigs.

It may not be as iconic as the signature Air Jordan line, but they had to do something after missing out on a chance on signing MJ. The adidas Ewing first arrived as a high-top shoe, meant to be a sturdy basketball trainer to contain heavy, strong centres like Patrick Ewing.

In 1991, Patrick Ewing ended up signing with another brand, thus the Three Stripes changed the name. So the adidas Rivalry relaunched and eventually became a lifestyle shoe in the years to come.

The shoe is highly similar to the likes of the adidas Forum, but with noticeable differences. This Rivalry model has no strap, has a different sole unit, and a slightly taller heel panel.

The low-top version is arguably the more popular style because it’s easier to wear and match.
