Arguably the most iconic adidas  shoe in the brands history. The adidas Superstar remains popular even in today’s sneaker standards. This former hoops shoe transcended to become a lifestyle staple option for all ages and all genders. Through the years, the Superstar adopted new versions and modern adidas technology to stay on-trend. But safe to say, nothing beats the classic and OG build.

The adidas Superstar made its debut in 1969 as the first low-top basketball shoe to feature leather and rubber. Aside from the beloved three stripes on the sides, the rubber shell toe became the model’s most iconic feature. The rubber shell toe protects the players from getting stepped on, it also reinforces the all-leather structure of the trainer.

NBA legend and Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who was an adidas signature athlete, spearheaded the Superstar wave in both college and professional hoops scenes.

More than 70% of NBA players wore the adidas Superstar at the peak of its popularity. Not only the leather upper and rubber shell toe worked their wonders, the herringbone traction outsole provided grip like no other.

The shoe went beyond the hardwood court and became a popular street shoe. Arguably the most notable memory in the 1980s is when rap group Run-D.M.C. popularised the adidas Superstar by wearing them without laces and sticking the tongue out. The group is also responsible for promoting the coveted hoops classic crep on their concerts across the United States.

Through the years, the adidas Superstar involved and featured some of the latest adidas tech. There’s the Pharrell Williams Superstar Primeknit that featured all the pigments in the colour wheel and took the three stripes off.

The adidas Superstar Primeknit is also one of the more memorable rendition of the silhouette. And of course, who could forget the adidas Superstar BOOST which tried to retain all the aesthetics of the OG model; but featured an exposed Boost foam on the medial side and the outsole.

Various collabs with Bape, Jonah Hill, Sean Wotherspoon, LEGO, Marvel, and more, brought a whole new look to the 1969 hoops shoe. There will be more to come, with various twists and redesigns to level up your style.
