Air Max 1

This running shoe changed the course of Nike footwear forever. Before all these awesome Air Max models, there was a pioneer that started it all. The Nike Air Max 1 is a legend in its own right. While it’s probably not as popular as the Air Max 90, the debut of Air Max technology on this shoe set Nike in the right direction.

It all began in 1987, but Nike and Tinker Hatfield were already bringing prototypes in 1986. The Nike Air Max 1 debuted Nike Air Max technology, which is a type of cushioning system that exposes the Nike Air unit. Cored-out sections on the heel area of the midsole made the transparent Air unit look like windows, and provide even more bounce.

When the brand officially introduced the shoe, people weren’t convinced at first. But decades later, the Nike AM1 can now be considered on par with the AM90 in popularity.

First marketed as a performance running shoe, the Nike Air Max 1 now falls under the brand’s lifestyle back catalogue. It may lack stability, but its cushioning is way ahead of its time!

Since Nike started the annual Air Max Day celebration in March, awesome AM1 colourways brought hype to a whole new level.

Multiple limited-edition collabs later, the Nike Air Max 1 continues to be a highly coveted pair for many fans. Regional-exclusive colourways are still sought after, even years after their release.

After celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2022, things are still looking good for the shoe. Collaborations with Travis Scott, Concepts, Patta, and more just go to show that the trainer will never lose the spotlight.

It’s an icon forever and always, and we can’t wait to see the upcoming drops!
