New Balance isn’t playing it safe here. The ABZORB 2000 “Limelight” lands with a different kind of energy: brighter, sharper, and more experimental than what we usually expect from the Boston sportswear label.
It feels like a shift into a new era for the brand. Less nostalgia. More forward motion. And that’s exactly why it works. Positioned at the forefront of New Balance’s lifestyle catalogue, it’s clear why the ABZORB 2000 has been getting a lot of attention in the sneaker community. The silhouette has the potential to match the famed 9060 in popularity, thanks to some outstanding colourways and a completely new feel.
Below, we take a closer look at the all-new “Limelight” colourway.

Let’s start with the obvious. That “Limelight” finish is intense. High-vis neon green dominates the upper, broken up by hits of black that give the whole thing contrast. It really is loud, and feels engineered to grab attention.
This isn’t your usual New Balance palette. It leans closer to TN than 540 and more Nike DN than the 999x line. And of course, this one’s packed with a lot of Y2K-inspired energy.
While FuelCell has been the star of New Balance’s elite running models, ABZORB and ABZORB SBS are the primary source of cushioning for most retro-futuristic NB trainers. In this “Limelight” colourway, the pitch-black midsole sits atop the lime green pods for maximum shock absorption and long-lasting comfort. You also have the rigid Stability Web plate on the midfoot for additional support.

This is not a subtle sneaker. So don’t treat it like one. If you’re looking to build a fit around it, think Dark cargos, dark denim, or simple neutral wide fit trousers. Keep the rest muted and let the colour hit properly.
Or go the other way by leaning into the tech, gorpcore feel: reflective fabrics, utility pieces, and layered fits. Either approach works here.
