While the Campus line has been dominating the basketball world since since the ’80s, during the early Noughties, the German sportswear company headed from hardcourt to the halfpipe with the adidas Campus 00s. Taking the retro silhouette and completely redesigning for skateboarding, it proved extremely popular, especially for those who wanted an alternative to the Nike Dunk Low.
After a brief hiatus, the Campus 00s is officially back and better than ever. Very much adored by sneakerheads and trainer lovers in general, if you want to jump on the hype then you’ve come to the right place. Here, we’ll be covering everything from the design, the fit, and so much more. So, stop what you’re doing and keep it locked here to find out everything that you need to know!
The Campus was originally called Tournament in the early 1970s. That said, it was later renamed the Campus in 1980 to appeal to the college crowd. Even after all of these years though, its design has largely remained the same since. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
In general, the Campus 00s fits true to size (TTS). Compared to the original 80s, the entire upper is slightly wider. But we wouldn’t recommend going down by even half a size as they’d be much too short. If it feels a little too roomy for you, consider tightening your laces or even wearing thick socks.
While the OG Campus was designed more with support in mind, the 00s injects it with more comfort and cushioning. Like the best skate shoes out there from the likes of New Balance and Vans, the fabrics and materials used here are significantly plusher compared to their non-skate counterparts.
The sidewalls are extra chunky, and the tongue has been considerably beefed up. Elsewhere, the flat laces are now thicker, and all of this sits on top of a rubber midsole that has been infused with EVA foam for unrivalled response with every step. So, is the Campus 00s a comfortable shoe? Honestly, it’s one of the comfiest sneakers that you can get. Period.
Whether you’re a kickflip veteran or you’re just getting started, the Campus 00s is one of the best skateboarding shoes that you can buy right now. As mentioned before, it started off as a basketball model and later transformed into a skateboarding silhouette. Just like the Nike Dunk and the Nike SB Dunk, this is exactly how the best halfpipe trainers in the world are made.
Over the years, we’ve seen countless coveted colourways get revealed, and all of them perform just as well as the next. Most of these are made from hard wearing suede with premium leather detailing throughout that’s made to last. Some of these are also equipped with gum outsoles for better grip and traction.
The Campus 00s is literally becoming more and more popular by the minute. Luckily though, it’s generally very widely available, so you don’t need to join raffles or camp outside stores to cop a pair:
If you want the adidas Campus 00s in your daily rotation, now is the time. One of the most iconic adidas basketball-turned-skate shoes of all-time, whether you’re a hardcore skater or you’re just getting started, this is an essential part of your collection. Fitting true to size, it’s crafted from suede and leather and is equipped with extra plush padding throughout for added comfort. Even if you’re not planning on using these for the halfpipe, they’ll make one helluva everyday sneaker. Honestly.
