Earlier this year, rumours started popping up suggesting that adidas was about to drop a brand new Adizero silhouette. At that point, nobody had actually seen it yet, but insiders reported that this sneaker was destined to be a true game-changer. And now, after months and months (and months) of leaks and teasers, the adidas Adizero Aruku has finally arrived – and here’s everything that you need to know.
One of the first things that you’ll probably notice is that, even though this is releasing as part of the German sportswear company’s legendary Adizero line, it’s not a running shoe. In fact, Aruku is actually Japanese for the term “to walk,” so it indicates that this is actually more of a lifestyle trainer than anything.
First launching in a fiery red “Pure Ruby” colour scheme, the base is crafted from a tightly-knit mesh that offers unrivalled levels of support while keeping everything nice and ventilated. A TPU cage wraps across the lateral and medial sidewalls to hold everything in place, and this is decorated with a trio of “Core Black” stripes.
Around the back, the Aruku boasts a leather heel counter that has been swiped straight off of other Adizero models from back in the day, and all of this is tied together with a pair of “Footwear White” laces. So far, so straightforward, right?
Well, while everything along the top half of the upper is simple enough, everything along the bottom half has left some sneaker collectors scratching their heads. Why? Because rather than using adiPRENE or Boost or Cloudfoam or Futurecraft any of the other cushioning innovations that we’re familiar with, this trainer is the first one ever to feature Swirlfoam.
This has been infused into an extremely chunky midsole that’s curved for a smoother transition between heel strike and toe-off, and it’s apparently made using nitrogen gas. Not much else is known about this technology, but we’ll be seeing a lot of it within the coming months.
So, how much will the adidas Adizero Aruku set you back? Well, compared to a lot of other lifestyle silhouettes out there from the likes of Nike and New Balance, this shoe is actually very well-priced at £110. It’ll be available at adidas, the Confirmed app, and select stockists globally upon launch, and even though it only just dropped, huge collabs from the likes of atmos, Concepts, and Gunna have already been announced.
