You know how it is, you’ve got a fresh pair of kicks and you want to make sure that toe box stays box fresh. We get it. There’s a reason why certain styles of trainers are worth countless amounts of money, and why certain pairs only see light in the right weather / setting.
However, because of their function as a support for your feet, while walking or running, shoes are subject to the whims of the elements, and this means that they can become damaged slightly over time, no matter how well you take care of them.
While some might resort to simply buying expensive shoes to display in their collection, you’re likely here because you want to keep wearing your shoes, but you also want to keep them looking fresh and new, right?
If so, you could not have come to a better place. Today, we are going to take a look at how you can get rid of creases that may have shown up on the surface of your shoes!
Read on down below to get started now!
If you have noticed creases appearing on the toe of your shoes or around the heel etc, you can rest assured that there are actually numerous ways that you can rejuvenate them. Let’s take a look at them now!
If you have shoes that are predominantly made up of leather, then you can try out this method that is often used to bring new life to sofas (that are also made of leather).
In order to do this, you will need a small piece of cloth. Take that cloth, and then wet it before wringing it so that it becomes just damp.
Once the cloth is damp, all you then need to do is place it into the microwave for around 30 seconds.
When you remove the cloth from the microwave, you will notice that it is emitting steam. Take the steaming cloth, and rub it softly on the area of the crease on your shoe.
Do this slowly and softly, and over time, you should notice the leather beginning to loosen up and regain some of its elasticity as the moisture soaks in.
Once you have corrected the creases, all you then need to do is leave the shoe to cool down!
Many people assume that you cannot use iron to correct creases in a pair of shoes, but, provided you do it safely, you very much can!
It’s best to do this on leather shoes. Make sure that you do not try it on suede shoes, as those can become damaged by water!
Before you take the iron to your shoes, you will want to stuff the shoes, for example with balls of bundled paper, as this will help to keep the shoes stretched out, which makes them easier to buff up.
Make sure to use some kind of buffer between the iron itself and the shoes, as using your iron directly on the shoes can damage them.
Take the buffer, which should be a piece of cloth, and dampen it, before laying it directly onto the affected area of the shoe.
From there, turn your iron down to the lowest setting, and then carefully place the iron onto the buffer cloth. Make sure to only allow the iron to press onto the shoes for ten seconds at a time.
Make sure to keep checking the crease, to make sure that it is being repaired between intervals of ironing, and also make sure to occasionally lift up the cloth to ensure the affected area does not become damaged.
If you don’t want to risk applying heat directly to your shoes, then you may want to make use of some shoe conditioner to provide your shoes with some moisture, which can help to remove creases outright!
You can get all kinds of special shoe conditioners and oils that can easily be applied in numerous ways, and help to keep the leather or other materials on your shoes alive.
Just make sure that you do not use materials like oil on areas of your shoes that are predominantly fabric or suede, as the oil may stain those areas!
Take a little bit of your chosen conditioner solution, apply it directly to the affected area, and massage it in with a tool of your choice.
We recommend, again, using a small piece of cloth, as such a soft material will keep you from accidentally scouring the surface of your shoes.
Simply keep applying the conditioner until the crease goes away, but just be careful not to apply too much!
Are there any things you can do to stop your shoes from creasing in the first place? If you want to avoid your shoes looking aged, you should make sure, first of all, that your shoes fit you correctly.
Ill-fitting shoes will have more space between the foot and the shoe, which in turn will cause creases to show up more easily and more prominently.
You should also make sure that you keep your shoes stored efficiently between wearing them, such as with a shoe tree, which helps the shoes to maintain their shape.
Finally, if you really want to keep your kicks box fresh, we’d recommend checking our article on crease protectors.
There you have it! Those are just a few of the best ways that you can help to keep your shoes from creasing as well as how to resolve creases when they do appear.
The most crucial thing to take away from this is that getting the right fitting shoe is the key point. Too Large and you’ll always be battling creasing. Also spotting creasing early and consulting the above steps is the best way to prevent further damage!
If you do not have an iron, you can still use steam, from a damp microwaved towel to achieve a similar effect!
Yes. It is unavoidable because of how the foot bends as you walk, which causes shoes to fold at specific sections.
Absolutely, unless the shoes are totally damaged and have holes as a result of creases, there is no reason you cannot wear shoes that are a little bit creased.
