This one is definitely worth the wait! Finally back in remastered form since its retro release in 2012, the Air Jordan 12 “Playoffs” brings back championship memories. Originally part of the five OG Air Jordan 12 colourways; this shoe reminds a lot of people of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ historic 1996-1997 NBA season.
Black and White Air Jordan Retros always leave a mark in sneaker history. Partly because of its unmatched style that makes people complement the basic colour scheme; but mostly because Michael Jordan himself rocked these iconic hoops shoes. We’ve got the Black and White 11s also known as Concords, while the 13s also have the He Got Game or the similar Playoffs. As for the J12, another popular Black/White colourway aside from the Taxi is the “Playoffs”.
With the success of the Air Jordan 11, some may think it would be hard for Tinker Hatfield to surpass what’s widely considered to be a sneaker “grail”. So Tinker consulted MJ himself and looked for inspiration. The result? Another high-top basketball shoe with design cues from women’s 19th-century footwear and the Japanese Rising Sun flag.
The Air Jordan 12 also improved in terms of tech, it became the first Air Jordan model to utilise Zoom Air technology; incorporating a full-length Zoom Air unit inside the midsole for an extremely bouncy and comfortable ride. Carbon fibre makes a return for torsional support, as well as the herringbone traction pods for consistent grip.
This Air Jordan 12 “Playoffs” brings back the premium leather upper combination. Black dominates the upper, while White reptile-like leather mudguards reinforce the front portion. Metallic Silver lace loops and a Grey Jumpman label add more flair.
On the tongue, red Jumpman logos and “Two 3” stitching add more detail. More Jordan signatures appear on the heel.
White and Black hues finish off the herringbone traction outsole.
Finally confirmed for another retro run, expect the Air Jordan 12 Retro “Playoffs” to go live in February 2022.
