The ASICS Gel-Lyte III originally came out in 1991 as a performance running shoe. As a low-top trainer, the Gel-Lyte III boasted a lightweight ride and a well-cushioned feeling underfoot. The biggest feature popularised by the ASICS Gel-Lyte III is the split tongue construction.

With two tongues on the upper, the fit vastly improved and allowed an easier foot entry. They are thick and padded and helped bring even more comfort to the shoe.
