It’s not every day that we get to see underrated Air Jordan signatures release, such as the Jordan 2. They sometimes don’t get much of a look in with other early Jordan silhouettes taking the spotlight. But things have changed. Jordan Brand has finally decided to bring the Air Jordan 2 back for your pleasure, but in a way none of us would have expected. This 2021 release of the Air Jordan 2 Low is made in collaboration with Virgil Abloh and his Off-White brand.

The Air Jordan 2 was designed by Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore, it was designed to differentiate itself from the previous model’s aesthetics. Aside from the Swoosh less design, they flaunt luxurious reptile like materials on the upper. The Air Jordan 2 was produced in Italy during its first few months after release, this meant that the shoe also saw a price hike in comparison to the Air Jordan 1.

Barely worn by Michael Jordan due to his foot injury at the time, the J2 featured a plush ankle collar on the high-top version. A wings logo on the tongue gave it a familiar identity, as Nike dropped the iconic Swoosh on the sides for this one. A rigid heel counter finishes off the body of this vintage basketball shoe.

The usual thick PU sole returns and houses an encapsulated Air unit in the heel. Circular traction patterns on the forefoot are there to provide consistent grip.

This Off-White x Air Jordan 2 Low “White/Varsity Red” pays tribute to the original “Home” colourway. In typical Off-White fashion the shoe features Michael Jordan’s signature on the lateral side. An exposed foam tongue in a yellowish hue adds to the vintage finish of the shoe. On the medial side, Off-White and Nike labels return.

The laces are branded with the “SHOELACES” label as on most Off-White products. As well as the white zip-tie.

Abloh’s deconstructed design doesn’t end there. The entire midsole features cracks and distressed paint chips to fully achieve a vintage look. The outsole remains untouched and completes the shoe.

First stated to arrive on the third week of September 2021 this extremely limited sneaker can be grabbed exclusively through the Nike SNKRS app.

It’s about that time that this unappreciated sneaker got the love that it deserves. Maybe because of the impact of this release, the model will finally appear in the spotlight.
