After debuting on the NB 2002R, the Protection Pack makes its way to the 1906R. You probably wouldn’t even notice the difference from afar with the huge similarities of both silhouettes. The New Balance 1906R Protection Pack “Black” showcases multiple dark layers on the upper with vintage hits on the midsole. New Balance’s Protection Pack surged in popularity in 2021, now the brand hopes the 1906R could emulate the 2002R’s fame.
With the ever-changing trends in the sneaker scene, New Balance found a breakthrough thanks to its retro models. The 1906R is an updated silhouette of the 1906, and this Protection Pack reinvents the old-school running shoe once more.
Named after the year when New Balance was formed, the New Balance 1906 is a rather unknown model until recently. Originally released in 2009, the shoe takes design inspiration from running trainers in the early 2000s.
Dad shoe aesthetics are also all over this shoe. You got the airy mesh upper and a bunch of textile overlays on high-wear zones. N logos on the sides bring a lot of old-school vibes.
The foam midsole incorporates ACTEVA LITE with ABZORB on the heel, it’s comfortable and bouncy. This midsole setup is the same tooling found on the 2002R.
The New Balance 1906R Protection Pack “Black” features a Black mesh base with multiple suede layers. Metallic Gold outlines cover the N logos while the heel counter appears in Black.
A Sail White foam midsole and a Black rubber outsole complete the simple makeover.
