New Balance brings another set of 2002r colourways with the latest Protection Pack. This collection boasts various neutral-toned 2002r styles with extra padded layers on the upper. Since the popularity of the 2021 Protection Pack, NB didn’t slow down to create more of these. The New Balance 2002r Protection Pack “Black” emerges in a stealthy makeover with a Black and Grey combo.
Since its return, the NB 2002r grew to become one of the most anticipated pairs from the brand. After some collabs with the likes of Salehe Bembury and BAPE, general release styles benefitted from the hype. This Protection Pack continues the popular NB 2002r collection first seen in 2021. We now have more colourways to choose from!
Don’t be confused with the name, the New Balance 2002r did not come out in 2002. The shoe takes inspiration from old-school running sneakers, though! The New Balance 2002r released in 2020 as a nod to the New Balance 2002, a luxury running model which debuted in 2010. New Balance launched this shoe as the successor to the New Balance 2001.
This shoe shares the same midsole tooling as the New Balance 1906r, which also returned shortly after the 2002r. Today, both pairs are highly coveted lifestyle shoes which continue to release in various colourways. Whether it’s part of a collab or simply a general release, the 2002r captures many fans.
The New Balance 2002r Protection Pack “Black” joins the 2023 Protection Pack with a Black mesh base with Grey suede overlays. This shoe follows the same theme as the previous Protection Pack releases which boast exposed foam on the inner tongue.
