New Balance leans into the retro runner trend with the 2010 “Pecan Castlerock”, building on cues from the 990 series and early-2000s silhouettes. While it shares DNA with the 9060 and 2002R, the 2010 sets itself apart with a chunkier stance and bolder proportions. It keeps the vintage feel alive without relying on recycled designs.
The upper layers green diamond-knit mesh with black underlays, bringing texture and airflow. Brown suede wraps across key panels, softening the contrast and adding structure around the toe, heel, and eyelets. These earthy tones call back to classic trailwear palettes. They echo the “Beef and Broccoli” look, also seen on the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 993 from 2021.
New Balance integrates all three colours into the reflective “N” logo, which brings a subtle shine without overpowering the design. Underfoot, the segmented ABZORB midsole delivers visual weight and cushioning. Its sculpted shape and exaggerated curves anchor the entire shoe. The blacked-out finish adds balance and gives the 2010 its grounded, street-ready feel.
This isn’t a one-to-one revival. New Balance reshapes the formula with more muscle and presence. The result sits comfortably next to today’s chunkier icons but still feels distinct. It’s made for those who want the build of a tech runner with a layered, lifestyle edge.
