Don’t sleep on these general release colourways of the NB 550; the colour combination highly resembles those from the Aime Leon Dore collabs. The good thing is that these aren’t as limited! The New Balance 550 “Cream White / Black” fulfils the vintage theme of the shoe with a clean and classic colourway.
Going the opposite route of the “Panda” New Balance 550 is this “Cream Black” variation. The colour switch made the Cream White dominate the leather upper with subtle accents of Black on some panels. Vintage colours mimicking aged midsoles remind us of the past Aime Leon Dore releases. This may be not part of any collab but it sure looks like it does!
The New Balance 550 joins other 80s basketball shoes to become a best-seller in the lifestyle category. Originally released in 1989, the “P550 Basketball Oxford” was the low-top version of the New Balance 650. Leather comprises the upper structure with mesh padding on the ankles. “N” labels on the sides stay true to OG New Balance aesthetic.
This shoe returned in 2020 thanks to a special collab with Aime Leon Dore; and it paved the way for the rather forgotten sneaker to earn the spotlight in the sneaker community. 550 labels on the lateral forefoot keep things vintage, as well as other New Balance branding found all over the shoe.
The New Balance 550 “Cream White / Black” goes for a Cream White overall with hints of Black on the leather panel on the ankle and “N” outline. A vintage effect on the midsole blends well with the rather yellowish upper for a premium feel.
Keep an eye out for this release together with other 550 colourways this May 2022. If you still don’t know by now, the New Balance 550 is currently one of the hottest sneakers around!
