The Nike Air Huarache was released in 1991 as a performance-focused sneaker. Funny as it sounds, this silhouette took direct inspiration from ski boots and sandals. The result was insane comfort and a tight fit that was perfect for the basketball court. The Huarache soon moved on to become streetwear icon.
Featuring roomy upper fabric and soft leather overlays on the toe and midfoot, the Nike Air Huarache also dons a rubber heel clip that provides structure and mighty support to the shoe. Thanks to low-cut ankle collars and a stretchy tongue, entry is made easy for even the biggest foot. A great detail of this shoe is multiple lace holes in the leather overlay, allowing people to adjust according to their preference.
The original rubber logo patch reads Air Huarache and remains on the tongue, staying as true as possible to the 1991 release.
Coming to the midsole, the foam is as soft and springy as the day it was born. Reminding us of its sports heritage. Nike really went to town on comfort here with a Nike Air unit inside the midsole. Making each shoe feel like a foot pillow. The heel is labelled with “AIR” adding to the vintage look.
The rubber outsole arrives in a modified waffle traction pattern for consistent grip on all surfaces.
Various OG colourways of the Nike Air Huarache have landed in 2021. But the Toadstool edition is a much loved and missed colourway. The shoe is almost entirely made up of a black base pigment while the leather overlays are finished in Chestnut Brown. The laces and “Limited Edition” tag appear in a darker shade of brown completing the finish.
Keep your eyes out for these, as they will be releasing in limited quantities.
