Nike’s Air Max lineup just keeps on getting better every year. But 2023’s roster seems to be one of the best. We all recognise this shoe, but this specific pair is unlike the original release as they based it on the prototype. The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Big Bubble “University Red” brings the Big Bubble rendition to life for the first time since 1986. Notable changes appear on this shoe, especially the overall construction of the upper.
Nike bringing the prototype to life is a testament to the development of technology. This probably wouldn’t be possible in the 90s, but the brand finally managed to put the large Air unit on the AM1 without making it prone to popping.
The Nike Air Max 1 is definitely one of the most legendary sneakers not just in Nike’s history, but of all time. This Tinker Hatfield creation proved all doubters wrong and brought the potential of Air Max technology to life.
The biggest feature of the Air Max 1 is the visible Nike Air unit placed in the heel. Tinker Hatfield exposed the bubble to let the nitrogen-filled bag to provide more cushioning and bounce. The Big Bubble also had this goal in mind but was prone to popping. Luckily, Nike finally managed to find a way to give this large Air unit the green light.
The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Big Bubble “University Red” lands in the White OG University Red colourway. Changes on the collar and overall shape of the shoe may stray away from all recent releases, but this is what the prototype really looked like.
The biggest updates comes in the namesake Big Bubble. There are four pillars in the Air unit as opposed to the usual 3.
Coming in full family sizing, you can cop a pair for your squad this March 2023.
